An adult can also get infected with an ear infection, but children get infected them more frequently because they have smaller Eustachian tubes that are more likely to clog. According to the National Institute on Deafness and other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), every five out of six children will have at least one ear infection by their third birthday.
Sometimes, however, a person will experience recurrent ear infection and fluid buildup, or have an ear infection that won’t heal for months. These issues may lead to hearing loss, ear disorders, behavioral issues, and speech development delays in children. Each person who suffers from serious ear infections that spread to nearby tissues and bones, or experience a pressure injury.
While the child is asleep and pain-free, a small surgical cut is made in the eardrum. Then, a small tube is placed through the cut in the eardrum.
The tube allows air to flow in it so that pressure is the same on both sides of the eardrum. This fluid can flow out of the middle ear this prevents hearing loss and reduces the risk of ear infections.
Ear tube insertion is a common and safe procedure. On rare occasions, however, the complication may occur. It can occur in up to half of the children due to the surgery of ear tubes. Some of the complications are-
After the surgery, patients generally stay in the recovery room for a short time and leave the hospital on the same day. To reduce the chances of infection, the doctor may prescribe eardrops and antibiotics. The doctor may also recommend covering your ears when bathing or swimming to help reduce the risk of bacteria entering the middle ear.
The good news is that most people after the surgery experience fewer ear infections and they do get recover faster from any infections. They also sleep more soundly, feel better, hear better.
